“What is the speed of dark?”
Was the question inside my fortune cookie.
Well, that’s easy right? Dark has no speed. Dark is absence of light.
If dark is the absence of light, than what is light?
Even a three year old will tell you that the main source of light is our sun which powers the life on Earth. Other sources of light are house lights, fire, tvs, computers, phones, flashlights. What they all have in common is that they need energy to produce light.
The more powerful light, the more energy they need to produce it.
It has also been proven that we as people emanate a tiny bit of light. However it doesn’t help when the lights go out in your basement.
We are much more powerful and can emanate better in a different way.
With our knowledge and experience we can educate others. With our good deeds we can help those less fortunate and with our sense of humor we can brighten up someone’s day (notice the adjective?).
Darkness on the other hand, does not require much. It’s basic, passive, inactive energy. So how can it have a speed?
The speed of dark is how fast we decide TO NOT TURN ON THE LIGHTS and keep others in darkness.
It is the speed with which we decide not to give a seat to an elderly, not to help a sick person, not to say few kind words to people that matter to us.
It is the speed with which we decide to stay idle in front of injustice.
It is the speed with which we decide to have another drink, another cigarette, another slice of pizza.
It is the speed with which we decide to put off exercise till tomorrow.
It is the speed of lie.
Speed of darkness is immediate and effortless. It doesn’t require much energy.
The most amazing people like Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela have made the difference not due to lucky circumstances or superhuman ability, but as a result of hard work and constant effort.
We all can illuminate our world.
It is not always easy and it might require energy and effort but every tiny little action is worth it!
Please, don’t worry if your efforts end up being just like a little sparks of light.
Keep trying ANYWAY because you’ll never know which spark will create that strong shinning light.
People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.
