“Those who sing to You
Are those who are Pleasing to You.
They are
Permeated through
With surrendered Love
And become
The Keepers of Thy Essence.”
When you tune to the news or in general to people’s affairs in the world, it is easy to get into despair and not believe there is God or beauty or harmony in the world.
In this pauri, Guru Nanak turns our attention to all the creation that listens and sings along with Creator instead of those who don’t because those exist as well.
I especially like that he is using “sing” as a metaphor because it expresses the action of alignment and emotion of joy, flow, and harmony. The whole universe “continuously practice Your Divine Scales.”. Air, water and fire sing to you, seasons, planets, galaxies, even jewels, learned scholars, men, and women of moral restrainment sing to you.
And through this singing and aligning we start to embed the divine essence within us. And of course it is also not just us but the whole wide universe. So when we look at the beauty of the world we can see the essence of the creator because all of that is happening through alignment with creator. Guru Nanak doesn’t say it but it is apparent that those who think they are better than Creator, those who don’t consider his/her power, those who never tune themselves to Creator’s energy, suffer in misalignment.
